Arlyn Paul Johnson
Arlyn Paul Johnson, 90, of Stevens Point passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 under the care of Hospice at Oakridge Assisted Living.
He was born January 4, 1925 in Biron WI., the son of the late Paul and Pearl (Brewster) Johnson.
He attended school in Biron, Wis. Rapids and Marquette University in Milwaukee. His marriage to Lorraine Toelle took place on June 21, 1947, in Wis. Rapids. The couple lived in Wis. Rapids and Stevens Point before moving to Oakridge Assisted Living in Stevens Point. His wife Lorraine survives.
Arlyn was employed at the Copps Company in Stevens Point from 1960 until retiring in 1990. He started out managing the IGA Stores in Wis. Rapids for 10 years. In 1970 he moved to the Stevens Point Copps office as a grocery buyer. In 1975 he was promoted to director of frozen foods and was largely responsible for that department tripling in size during his tenure. After retiring Arlyn enjoyed going up north fishing and vacationing with his family and friends. Weekly trips to a casino were not uncommon. He also enjoyed bowling and watching some of his favorite sport teams, Packers, Brewers and Nascar Racing. He loved grilling outside and having the company of his family enjoy his steaks and “Old Fashions”.
Arlyn was also an Air Force Veteran from WWII. In 1943, at the age of 18, he enlisted and was eventually stationed in England. He was the flight engineer with The 453rd Bomb Group on a B-24 Bomber. He flew 35 missions over Germany from August 26, 1944 until his last flight on February 24, 1945. He is a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 6.
Arlyn is survived by his wife Lorraine, children Steve Johnson of Madison, WI; Tim (Cheryl) Johnson of Stevens Point; Randy (Lynn) Johnson of Rogers, AR; Deb (Bill) Zortman of Forest Junction, WI; and Brian Johnson of Stevens Point. Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Two brothers Paul Jr. of Biron, WI; Wayne (Gerry)of Nekoosa, WI; one sister Judy (Larry) Stelzer of Biron, WI. Arlyn was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ardis Kohnen; brother-in-law Kenneth Kohnen; sister-in-law Verna Johnson.

A Celebration of Arlyn’s Life will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Shuda Funeral Home on Stanley Street, Stevens Point at 12:00 pm, followed by Military Honors. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 10:00 am Saturday until the time of services at Shuda Funeral Home - Stevens Point
