Roy P. Hodsdon
Roy P. Hodsdon age 90, of Stevens Point passed away Saturday afternoon surrounded by his family, at the Portage County Health Care Center under the care of Ministry Hospice.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday March 18, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Beth Macha officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9:00 Friday morning until the time of service at the church. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Roy was born November 19, 1925 in Kenmare, North Dakota, the son of Earl and Hattie (Norden) Hodsdon. As a child the family moved to Mellen, WI and Roy graduated High school from Mellen High School. He entered the United States Army Air Force on December 28, 1943 at Fort Sheridan, IL. He served his country as a PFC until his honorable discharge on January 1, 1947 from Truax Field. He moved to Marshfield and began working at the Soo Line Railroad. Roy married Lois Brandl on November 1, 1952 in Marshfield. The couple moved to Stevens Point and raised their family. Roy retired from the railroad in 1990. He served on the Point Soo Credit Union for over 50 years, was a member of the Elks, American Legion Post #6, Masonic Lodge and past member of the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing,watching sports and telling stories/jokes. But most of all loved spending time with family and friends, going to the cottage in the summer, and his times at the hunting cabin. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of St. Michael's Hospital, Portage County Health Care, and Ministry Hospice for the wonderful care he received in his final days. Roy is survived by his 5 children: David (Nancy), Marshfield; Douglas (Sharon), Mondovi; Dean (Doreen), Stevens Point; Dixie (Eldon) Brammer, Bedford, VA; Dusty (Jackie), Stevens Point. 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: George (Rose Marie), Sacramento, CA and Duane (Leah), Glenwood, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, his wife Lois in 2010, and his great grandson Tyler.
