Obituary for
Ronald Mason
Ronald James Mason, born July 16th, 1939, passed to eternal life at his home on Tuesday, May 17th surrounded by his loved ones both in presence and in spirit following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Stevens Point the oldest child of Kenneth Mason and Marie (Sommers) Mason. His youth was spent in Stevens Point where he graduated from P.J. Jacobs Senior High in 1958. He joined the Army Reserves for a brief period of time and then joined the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service in February of 1977 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
He married the love of his life, Dorothy Janice Dionne or Dot on July 19th, 1958 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He always said that even though he was the Master Sergeant she was the General in his family and his life. Together they had 5 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Joseph Michael, brothers Michael and Fredrick and sister Linda.
During his time in the Air Force as a jet and auto mechanic, he travelled extensively being stationed in Valdosta, GA; Naha, Okinawa; Alamogordo, NM; served in the Vietnam Conflict, Big Springs, TX, Keflavic, Iceland and ended his military service in Lubbock TX. After his retirement, he returned with his family to Stevens Point. In Stevens Point, he began his employment at Courtesy Motors where he was the Service Manager until his final retirement in 2014.
Ron was one of the founders of and an active member of the Amvets Post 1051 of Stevens Point. He was an avid nature lover and enjoyed his time in his yard, flower beds, and feeding the birds and other wild life that would venture into his yard. He was the family authority on all things car related and the mechanic for anyone who needed his advice.
He is survived by his children Kenneth Mason, John (Maureen) Mason, Ronelle (Daniel) Olds and Nicolette (Gary) Boehnlein. Grandchildren Jenny Mason (fiance’ Jason Zant), Megan (Nicholas) Schmidt, Anthony Mason, Joshua (Valerie) Mason, Melissa Mason , Nicholas Mason, Nathan Olds, Nicole Olds, Zach Boehnlein and Joe Boehnlein. Great Grandchildren Kenny, Charlie and Jonathan Schmidt and Dominic Zant. Also brothers Robert Mason and David Mau
A Christian Funeral Mass for Ronald will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday May 24, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Arul Joseph Visuvasam will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point on Monday, May 23rd from 4:00-8:00 pm. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 - 10:15 AM Tuesday morning at St Peters Catholic Church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established in Ronald's name at a later date.
The Mason family would like to thank the staff of Ministry Hospice for the care they gave to Ronald and the family especially his nurses Mariah and Stephanie.
