Obituary for August V. "Gus" Peplinski

August V. "Gus"  Peplinski
August "Gus" Peplinski age 79, of Custer passed away May 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Ministry Hospice. He united with the love of his life Janet on the 58th anniversary of their wedding.
A Christian Funeral Mass for August will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday May 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church in Custer. Rev. Daniel Hackel will officiate.Burial will be at a later date. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday evening at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. A bible vigil will be prayed at 7:00 Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 – 10:45 AM Monday morning at the church.
August was born January 12, 1937 in the Town of Stockton, the son of Leon and Martha (Lepak) Peplinski. He graduated from Amherst High School. August married Janet Blaskowski on May 17, 1958 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Following high school August joined the U.S Army National Guard. He was called into active service October 15, 1961. He served during the Berlin Crisis and was honorably discharged as a SSGT E-6 on May 5, 1962.
August joined the Union Iron Workers Local #383 on April 1, 1957. He had an active role in the construction of UWSP, Consolidated Papers, Sentry Insurance and other projects throughout the State. He retired on February 1, 1999, and to this day was a proud active Union Member.
He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, sitting around a campfire sharing stories and recalling favorite memories. It is so easy to picture him wearing his white & black striped apron (his mother made him) and bending over to spin the chicken on the tripod over the camp fire. He spent hours enjoying time fishing with his sons and grandsons. Annual Deer hunting trips and Elk hunting out west . Traveling and enjoying Sunday drives. At home he loved to garden & work in his shed doing woodworking projects, or just building something!
August and Janet enjoyed 14 winters traveling and camping in Texas and Arizona after there retirement.

He is survived by 5 children: Cindy (Rick) Henke, Amherst Jct; Dennis (Debbie) Peplinski, Birnamwood; Jeffery (Chris) Peplinski, Eland; Diane (Russell) Wysocki, Custer; Lyle (Donna) Peplinski, Black River Falls. 12 grandchildren: Tim (special friend - Sayaka) Worden; Amber (Michael) Mau; Michelle (Travis) Oesterreich; Lindsey (Tide) Gile; Eric (Kim) Peplinski; Nicholas (special friend – Erika) Peplinski; August Peplinski; Alex Peplinski; Heidi (Kevin) Schleicher; Heather (Isaac) Groshek; Erin Wysocki; Nathan Peplinski. 1 step grandchild: Laura Mutz. 2 great grandchildren: Kai Mau and Louis Oesterreich. One sister Connie (Rene) Pauloski, Scandinavia: 2 brothers: Jim (Aggie) Peplinski, Polonia and Leo (Barb) Peplinski, Amherst Jct. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Janet on April 23, 2016.
