Catherine Marie Bell-Ghory (Carroll)
Catherine Carroll Bell-Ghory age 68, of Stevens Point passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday May 2, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday May 7, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery at a later date. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 10:00 AM until the time of services Monday at the church. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Catherine was born June 29, 1949 in Marshfield, the daughter of Henry and Isadora (Boylan) Carroll. Her family moved to Ashland in 1957 and to Stevens Point in 1961. She graduated from Maria High School in 1967. Catherine attended UWSP and UW-Madison. She met and married Earl Bell in 1971 while living in Madison. The couple later divorced. Catherine entered the United States Army, serving mostly in Maryland and Colorado during the Vietnam War. She pioneered the way for women by becoming the first woman to graduate from the Calibration Technician and Specialist program. After her honorable discharge, Catherine applied those skills, working as a calibration specialist for Genentech Inc., a biotechnology corporation. Catherine spent most her adult life living with her son Brian in the San Francisco area for many years. While in California, she earned an Associate’s degree in Horticulture. Catherine married Saliba Ghory on September 27, 2002 in Virginia, and the couple moved to Stevens Point in 2005. After returning to the Stevens Point area, she also pursued a degree in Geology. Catherine served as a 4H leader and enjoyed rock collecting, extensive gardening, food preservation, cooking, needle crafts and was ham radio operator. She was a recent cancer survivor.
Catherine is survived by her mother Isadora Carroll, Stevens Point; her siblings: Kevin (Patricia) Carroll, Wisconsin Rapids; Bonnie (Frederick) Berry, West Allis; Patricia Carroll, Amherst; Timothy Carroll, Wisconsin Rapids; Jeanne Carroll (Dean Barrington), Stevens Point, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Henry, her son Brian, her husband Saliba in 2017, her brother William, her niece Jessica, and two nephews, Daniel and Keith.
