Joan Zimmerman
Joan Zimmerman age 87 of 2708 Simonis Street in Stevens Point passed away Tuesday morning at her home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Funeral services for Mrs. Zimmerman will be held at Noon Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu MSFS.
will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel and again Friday from 11:00 AM to the time of services at the church. The St. Stanislaus Rosary Society will combine with the general rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at the Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Joan was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Monett, MO the daughter of Arthur and Rose (White) Sturgis. As a child she moved with her family to St. Paul, MN where she graduated high school and Rasmussen Business College in South St. Paul, MN. She married Henry Zimmerman April 14, 1945 in San Louis Obispo, CA . The moved to the Stevens Point area in 1957. Joan worked at Sentry Insurance for 12 years and also was a bookkeeper for the family owned Westside Market and Westgate Grocery. She was a very active member of St. Stanislaus Parish and attended morning mass with her special friends and afterwards enjoyed breakfast as a group. She was one of the original members for the fund drives of the diocesan cathedral and for Pacelli High School. Joan was a member of the Catholic Foresters, Catholic Daughters, St. Stanislaus Rosary Society, and The Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, catholic charities, Indian Missions, and volunteering at St. Stans. She was also an active bridge player, along with golfing, bowling, and loved reading and cross-stitch. She always looked forward to spending time at the family cabin up north in Sugar Camp.
Joan is survived by her husband Henry and their children: Dean Zimmerman, Elkhart Lake; Rose Zimmerman (Mike) Ford, St Cloud, MN; Bob (Karen) Zimmerman, Appleton; Hank (Susan) Zimmerman, Franklin. Seven grandchildren: Sue, Chris, Timm (Sarah), Joseph, Matt, Rachel, Becca. One sister Kathleen (Tosh) Bleckinger, St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons; Gregory and Patrick. 2 sisters and one brother.
